Nikola Tesla
Inventor
July 9-10,1856 - January 7,1943
Family/Childhood
I was born in Croatia right on the stroke of midnight between July 9th and July 10th exactly when lightning struck. My father was a priest and my mother was a homemaker who invented things to make life easier. I had 2 sisters and 2 brothers. One of my first inventions was a motor powered by June Bugs. When I was a boy I had the ability to see things that would come into my mind. Sometimes the images I saw had flashes of light that were so realistic I could manipulate the invention and make changes before I could even put it down on paper.
Education/Young Adult
In the town of Gospic I went to normal school like the 2nd - 5th grades here. I liked school I was a good student, my family thought school was important. I went to the Gymnasium once I graduated there I went to the Higher Real Gymnasium which is in Karlovic. At age 18 I was gong to go into the polytechnic institute, but I received a draft notice for the army. My dad kept me out of the army and I stayed in the mountains. At age 19 I started my career at the polytechnic institute. I studied from 3:00 AM to 11:00 PM. One day I had a seen a picture of Niagara Falls and had a vision of a spinning wheel that could be used to create energy. I first started working in Europe when I was 28 I moved to America.
Inventions that made me famous/Contributions
I have many inventions and 700 patents but I will give a list of my most famous inventions.
- My biggest and most famous invention is the Alternating Current Motor
- Another well-known invention is my Tesla Coil
- Rotating magnetic field (how MRI machines work today)
- X-Rays
- Fluorescent Lighting
- Remote Control
- Radio
I was building a transmission plant with the financial help of J.P. Morgan. But it never became fully functional. Edison and I were at odds about which current was the best, (AC or DC) mine was the best :D.I thought about guided missiles and wireless communication long before they were developed, some people say I was working on a death ray.
Where am I now?
Sadly on January 7,1943 I passed away.
"The progressive development of man in virtually dependent on invention. It is the most important product of his creative brain.... This is the difficult task of the inventor who is often misunderstood and unrewarded...."
